The Thousand Year Reich - to a frightened world it sounds like the rantings of a mad man. The scary thing is Hitler takes actions to make it happen. As he prepares to unleash his armies across Europe, his belief in the occult convinces him to pursue immortality.

In early 1937, he summons his favorite medical mind - Josef Mengele, the man who will become known as the Angel of Death, to the Krolloper and tasks him with an impossible assignment. He's instructed to create an elixir capable of granting the Nazi Leadership eternal life.

On November 9th, 1938 - Crystal Night - against all the laws of God and humanity and at terrible cost, Mengele succeeds.

Daniel Livnat, a Jew, the sole survivor of Mengele's diabolical experiments, becomes something very special - a vampire, not of legend, but spawned from the darkest hell of Nazi science.

The lesson every member of the Fuhrer's inner circle must learn; "Be careful what you wish for" comes to pass. Daniel personifies all their worst nightmares - an immortal Jewish avenger in waiting. His only goal, to bide time and hunt down every single one of his transgressors.

A very different take on the vampire story. I’m a fan of the genre and have to say I’ve never read anything quite like it. It’s one of those ideas someone should have thought of earlier, a bit like “30 Days of Night.” How long have we known about the month long blackout in Alaska? A perfect set up for a very bad 30-day vampire nightmare! This author took an equally fertile setting – Nazi Germany – and built a compelling tale around history’s worst villains. Himmler, Eichmann, Klaus Barbie, Goering, Reinhard, Heydrich – not to mention the ring leader, Josef Mengele. The idea of a Jewish super-hero also has never been attempted – certainly not like this! It’s a fast read, with fun characters we all know – or should know – with plenty of twists. If you’re looking for something original with a new breed of monster, this one is for you. I recommend it to all!

Great idea of combining the Nazi era with a different, more evolved vampire. The tragic destruction and oppression in particular, of an entire family and of course the decimation of a race are disheartening. The ending was left open, so I hope there will be a part 2.
Great read. I love vampires and reading anything that even somewhat involves WWII and Nazi Germany. It's very interesting to pair the two together. A Jewish hero is different for sure. Mengele is the Angel of Death and his ways as well as the other baddies come through just as we have known them to be in history. Daniel, the hero, has an interesting background as well. It's pretty neat if you are trained too.

Give the book a read, especially if you're anything like me and like vampires, WWII, Germany, Nazi stories )
Crystal Night was a very unique take on a vampire story. The author didn’t go the traditional route with the story and created a whole new mythology for the vampires. What I also enjoyed was his take on the history of World War II. He stayed true to great many facts and modified what needed to be modified to make his story work (which wasn’t much).

His main character, Daniel, was really interesting and I loved that he didn’t kowtow to the Nazis. The only thing I wasn’t a huge fan of was the ending, but I see why he did it and it makes sense for the story.

Overall an enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to the next book.
Intriguing concept. It was a quick read because I was curious to see how it played out. A little sorry it ended
Request author, M. Diagnostine, to rescue his readers from these monsters! I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
Interesting book. The basic premise being, none of the most infamous Nazis died the way we thought - in fact none of them died at all. In reality, even decades after Workd War II ended, confusion and scientific proof casts doubt on how many of the top Nazis escaped Germany. This is one imaginative version of what happened. The protagonist, Daniel, is both good and flawed. While he outwardly seems like an honorable man - his past definitely comes back to haunt not only him, but also his family. In a very real way, he is Golem of lore - with an exciting addition. It is as much a psychological journey as it is a physical one - with a great set up ending for a sequel!

Matt Diagostine combines two popular genres in this book...Nazi's and vampires...into an imaginative ride into what might have happened had the notorious Nazi Joseph Mengele come up with the formula to change the Nazi leadership and himself into vampires...possessing eternal life on earth and thus inaugurating the 1,000-year Reich. But the first successful test case of Mengele's formula is a Jewish man having expert martial arts skills, which sets in motion a series of cat-and-mouse strategies for survival and power. An excellent read that kept me engaged from beginning to end
